History of Lions

The Emblem.

Lion Logo

The current Lion emblem (above) was adopted at the 1919 convention. Lions around the world are recognised by it. It is a gold letter "L" on a circular purple (or sometimes blue) field. Bordering this circle is a gold area with two Lion profiles facing away from the centre - the Lions face both Past and Future - showing pride of heritage and confidence in the future. Purple stands for loyalty to friends and for the integrity of both mind and heart. Gold symbolises sincerity of purpose, liberality in judgement, purity in life, and generosity in mind, heart and purse to those in need.

The Motto and Slogan.

Our official motto is "We Serve."

The slogan is "Liberty, Intelligence, Our Nation's Safety." The Bold letters spell out the word LIONS.
