During our 40 year history we have formed 5 Lions Clubs - being: Ferntree Gully (1962), Doncaster (1965), Bennettswood (1971), North Melbourne (1969/70) and Boroondara-Gardiners Creek (1996). We have twice formed a Leo Club for Box Hill (1971 and 1995).

In 1991 our club became twinned with the Matsudo-Higashi Lions Club in Japan and we have strong ties with them through Lions Ray Hill, Bill Cox and Jim McLean.

Basically the history of Box Hill Lions club is one of the need to serve the local community of Box Hill / Whitehorse. We have achieved all this excellent work through lots of hard work, raising money at raffles, sales of Christmas Trees and cakes, and much more. We have run an Oportunity (Op) shop, an art show and have had a monthly Art and Craft market in Box Hill.

Our Goals and Objectives will still be those formed 40 years ago, and they will lead us well into the next century. They are the "Need to Serve" the local community and the will and enthusiasm of our members will ensure that the next 40 years of Box Hill Lions Clubs history will be full of the above great achievements and more.

2001 / 2002 saw another milestone in our Club's History with our first Woman President Lion Dorothy Watts. Our second Woman President for 2002 / 2003 was Lion Lois Tweedie. 2003 / 2004 sees Ian Morrow has our next president.

Lion Mark Chatwin.
